Account and Data Deletion
You have the right to delete your Ghost App account and all associated data at any time. This page explains what gets deleted, how to request deletion, and what to expect during the process.
What Data Will Be Deleted?
When you request account deletion, the following data will be permanently removed:
- Account Information: Your mobile number and account credentials
- FCM Token: Your device's push notification token
- Active Group Memberships: You will be removed from all current groups
- User Profile: Your user ID and any account settings
What Happens Automatically?
Remember: Ghost App automatically deletes messages and groups after 24 hours. You don't need to request deletion for:
- Messages you've sent (auto-deleted after 24 hours)
- Groups you've participated in (auto-deleted after 24 hours)
- Message history (auto-deleted after 24 hours)
How to Request Account Deletion
Step 1
Prepare Your Information
Before requesting deletion, have the following ready:
- Your registered mobile number
- Reason for deletion (optional but helpful)
Step 2
Send Deletion Request
Email us at support@ghostapp.ai with the subject line:
Subject: Account Deletion Request - [Your Phone Number]
Include in your email:
- Mobile Number: The phone number registered to your account
- Confirmation: State "I confirm I want to permanently delete my Ghost App account"
- Reason (optional): Why you're leaving (helps us improve)
Step 3
Verify Your Identity
For security, we may ask you to verify your identity by:
- Responding from the email we have on file, OR
- Confirming via SMS to your registered mobile number
Step 4
Wait for Confirmation
We will process your request and send you a confirmation email within 7 business days.
Deletion Timeline
Within 24 hours: Your account is deactivated and you can no longer log in
Within 7 business days: All your account data is permanently deleted from our systems
Within 30 days: Data is removed from backup systems
After 30 days: Complete and irreversible deletion
Important: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. You will need to create a new account if you want to use Ghost App again in the future.
What Happens to Active Groups?
- You will be immediately removed from all active groups
- Other group members will not be notified of your departure
- Your messages remain in groups until the normal 24-hour expiration
- Your anonymous alias remains visible in message history until expiration
Data We May Retain
For legal and safety reasons, we may retain certain limited data even after account deletion:
- Law Enforcement Requests: Data subject to legal holds or investigations
- Abuse Reports: Evidence of Terms of Service violations
- Security Logs: IP addresses and connection logs for fraud prevention (30-90 days)
This retained data is:
- Minimal and only what's legally required
- Not used for any other purpose
- Deleted as soon as legal obligations are fulfilled
- Not shared with third parties except as required by law
Alternatives to Full Deletion
Not ready to delete? Consider these alternatives:
- Just uninstall the app: All your messages are already auto-deleted after 24 hours. Simply uninstalling stops notifications and participation.
- Disable notifications: Turn off push notifications in your device settings
- Take a break: Simply don't use the app for a while. There are no subscription fees or ongoing costs.
Data Portability
Before deleting your account, you can request a copy of your data:
- Email support@ghostapp.ai with subject "Data Export Request"
- We will provide: Your mobile number and account creation date
- Note: Due to our 24-hour deletion policy, we cannot export message history
- Data export takes 3-5 business days
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I recover my account after deletion?
No. Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. You will need to create a new account with a new phone number or reuse your old number to create a fresh account.
How long does deletion take?
Your account is deactivated within 24 hours. Complete data deletion from all systems takes up to 30 days.
Will other users know I deleted my account?
No. Other users will not be notified. You will simply no longer appear in any new groups.
What if I have an active abuse report?
If you have reported abuse or are under investigation, account deletion may be delayed until the investigation is complete.
Can I delete specific messages instead of my whole account?
No. Ghost App does not support selective message deletion. All messages automatically delete after 24 hours anyway.
What happens to my phone number?
Your phone number is removed from our systems. You can use the same number to create a new Ghost App account in the future if desired.
GDPR and CCPA Rights
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or California, you have additional rights:
- Right to Access: Request a copy of your data
- Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate data
- Right to Erasure: Request deletion (this page)
- Right to Restrict Processing: Limit how we use your data
- Right to Data Portability: Receive your data in a portable format
- Right to Object: Object to certain processing activities
